As you may know, my go-to budget drink is a little something I like to call the Michigan Mule. More often, I like to drink something a little more middle shelf. So this is a bit of an evolution for my mule. Sort of a grown up version. I don’t have a name for this concoction yet, but here’s the recipe:
4 oz. Bulliet Rye whiskey
1/2 teaspoon ginger simple syrup
Splash of ginger ale
Combine over lots of ice in a rocks glass
This is more whiskey forward than the Michigan Mule but it’s still pretty sweet thanks to the simple syrup. I make my own using Truvia instead of sugar. Pro tip: sugar is why your hangover sucks so bad.
Here’s how to make it.
Peel a couple large fingers of fresh ginger and chop up the ginger. Combine ginger, 2 cups water and 2 cups Truvia into a pot and heat over high heat. Bring to a boil. Boil for 2 minutes, stirring constantly. Remove from heat and let the pot rest for 20 minutes. Strain ginger from syrup. Store in the refrigerator.
Now enjoy your fancy mule!
